- Why is IT security particularly worthwhile for SMEs?
- Attackers target SMEs on purpose. SMEs are often less well protected than large corporations, both technically and organisationally. Yet they still hold valuable data and processes. A single ransomware incident easily costs a mid-sized company a six-figure sum and often stops the business for weeks. For SMEs, structural IT security is basic business hygiene, not a luxury. And it works on a manageable budget.
- We do not have an in-house IT team – is SecTepe still the right partner for us?
- Yes, especially then. With our managed-service packages, we either take over the role of your IT team completely. Or we add security skills to your external IT provider where needed. You get a dedicated contact person, clear SLAs and transparent monthly billing. And you do not need to coordinate ten different sub-providers.
- What does information security typically cost for an SME?
- It depends strongly on sector, headcount and regulation. As a guide, take a trades or services business with 20 to 100 employees. Full security-flat-rate packages, including awareness, patch and backup management, cost a low to mid four-digit amount per month. For an ISO 27001 ISMS rollout we typically plan 6 to 12 consulting days per year.
- Which funding programmes can we use?
- Many SMEs qualify for funding. Examples are "go-digital", state-level programmes (e.g. Mittelstand.Innovativ NRW) and sector-specific funds. We are an accredited advisor for several of these programmes. We support you from the eligibility check to the final report.
- How quickly can we start?
- You can usually have a free first conversation within a few business days. Assessments can start within two weeks, managed-service onboarding within four to six weeks. In acute cases (ransomware, data exfiltration) we start at once via the incident-response hotline. The contract details follow afterwards.
- Are we as an SME affected by NIS2?
- NIS2 applies from 50 employees or EUR 10 million in revenue in the 18 covered sectors. Many SMEs are directly in scope. Even more are affected indirectly, because they must provide evidence as suppliers. Our NIS2 self-check takes you through the key questions in 15 minutes.
